  2. InterNews 1.0.7 Release Notes

  5. InterNews is a Macintosh program for reading the Usenet News. It requires an Apple Macintosh computer running MacTCP¬.   It will work under Macintosh System versions 6.0 and later. The Macintosh must be on a network that has a ╥news host╙ machine available.  InterNews communicates with a service called NNTP (Network News Transport Protocol) on the news host. It supports the sending of mail using an SMTP host and some sort of user authentication service.

InterNews is available free of charge to users at educational or non-profit institutions.  Dartmouth College requests that commercial and government sites purchase a license for the use of InterNews at the fee schedule and under the terms listed in the Licensing Information document included with the package.

  19. Fixed some bugs regarding the special site configuration options for locking and hiding the "save name", "save password", "posting name", and "email address" preferences.

  23. Fixed two bugs:
  24. - Lengthy hang when getting the initial group list from some sites.
  25. - Bomb when saving certain large articles to disk.

  34. - Fixed a bug: program would hang at some sites when attempting to post an article or send a mail message.

  38. - VMS-NC authentication method now detects failed sign-ons more quickly. Also, you can change the wait time for shell command detection for slow-to-start systems. Edit WAIT resource 19010.

  42. - URLs in the form of host:path1/path2/...  are decoded better for FTP access.
  43. - Added VMS-NC authentication method for sites using VMS systems that support the username/NOCOMMAND convention.

  45. Bugs fixed:
  46. - Occasional crashes when creating a new subscription file.
  47. - Forgetting the command prompt for VMS mail user authentication.
  48. - The wandering split bar is fixed for the third time :-)
  49. - Window position and zoom state are remembered correctly when the window is closed.

  51. Version 1.0.4 released September 16, 1994

  53. Bugs fixed:
  54. - The preferred e-mail address preference was forgotten if the save name and save password preferences were not checked. Now it is is remembered regardless. If the subscription file is used by another user, messages sent from it will still use the existing preferred e-mail address if there is one, even if the user signs on with another name. This is complicated, but the best we can do. People should not share their subscription files.
  55. - Cmd-period would cancel operations even if the app was in the background.

  59. Two bugs fixed:
  60. - Range check error when sorting a list of 12000 newsgroups.
  61. - Import .newsrc did not recognize TEXT files.

  71. - Improved newsgroup list sorting for sites with large lists.
  72. - Posting name and e-mail address preferences are cleared when a different user is authenticated.

  77. Some small changes:
  78. - The composing window will no longer close without asking to save changes.
  79. - The posting name preference is filled in with the authenticated name if nothing has been entered by the user.
  80. - InterNews is now stationery aware.
  81. - You can import 'NEWS' type files as Unix .newsrc format files.

  86. The changes so far in 1.0.2 are all special configuration customizations:

  88. - Users who use VMS for authentication can now enter a custom command line prompt.
  89. - Several configuration options can all be made uneditable by site managers who want to restrict their user's ability to change those configuration items. See the =Quick Start= document for details.
  90. - Fixed some bugs:
  91.     The wandering splitbar for windows that have the side-by-side layout. 
  92.   A bomb when the number of topics is over 3000.
